A must read: The Shack

Both comforting and reassuring, this book tells of a loss of a loved one. It provides solace to a grieving heart and teaches acceptance and ways to offer forgiveness. I hope it touches your life the same way it did mine.

Mackenzie Allen Philips's youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later, in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting hime back to that shack for a weekend.

Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever.

My best friend Annie

We would pick up where we exactly left off. Distance and time never seem to matter. We never run out of stories to share; every conversation a mere continuation of endless thoughts from yesterday.

That's how things are between me and Annie. The best of friends we will always be.

Nice seeing you again bespren! Till next...year? Haha!

Tiger Airways Flight Deals this September

Save the date and book away!

Happy birthday Mama Mary!

The traditional date of the feast, September 8, falls exactly nine months after the feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. Perhaps because of its close proximity to the feast of the Assumption of Mary, the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is not celebrated today with the same solemnity as the Immaculate Conception. It is, nonetheless, a very important feast, because it prepares the way for the birth of Christ.

Finding a good read? - The Three Weissmanns of Westport

I love reading. It’s probably one of the best influences I got from my mom’s side, the Abellas. And because I share the same hobby with my aunts especially, I have the privilege of acquiring books from best-selling authors without spending a single centavo.

From time to time, my auntie Linda sends a package full of books she’s done with. It would usually contain the latest from Iles, Baldacci, Higgins Clark, Patterson and my all-time favorite, Grisham.

Fortunately, I work from home so when all tasks are done for the day, I still have enough time and energy to go over the shelves and find a good read.
There is nothing like the experiences brought about by the world of Fiction. John Grisham had made me want to become a lawyer at some point in my life. Paulo Coelho’s Pilgrimage and James Redfield’s The Celestine Prophecy have taken me to places I have never been. And I will never forget how I cried over the last line of Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner, “For you, a thousand times over.”

I want you to experience the same. And so I will start writing some posts on books that I have read, enjoyed and liked; books that had me inspired and motivated.

I’ll start with the one which I just finished today - The Three Weissmanns of Westport.

Betty Weissmann has just been dumped by her husband of forty-eight years. Exiled from her elegant New York apartment by her husband's mistress, she and her two middle-aged daughters, Miranda and Annie, regroup in a run-down Westport, Connecticut, beach cottage. In Schines, playful and devoted homage to Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility, the impulsive sister is Miranda, a literary agent entangled in a series of scandals, and the more pragmatic sister is Annie, a library director, who feels compelled to move in and watch over her capricious mother and sister.

Let me know some of your favorite books. Post your comments. Enjoy reading!

Funny comment to Yahoo's news regarding a 21 foot croc captured in Agusan del Sur

One of the headlines that filled the news today is a large 21-foot crocodile which was captured by residents and crocodile farm staff in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur.

On Yahoo News' page, it is one of the main post. But what I found rather funny are the comments left by avid readers and fans of the page. See some of them below.

I agree with Roldan Becerro Sarceda though. Just how had crocodiles been associated with greedy and corrupt service men and politicians? There may have been a number of reported incidents of crocodile attacks but theirs is a case of survival instinct. As human-beings, we also encounter situations where we get exposed to our most common Achilles' heel. But in the battle for survival, corruption should never be an option.

Libera...an alternative boyband

I came across this video on a friend's Facebook wall this morning. It's a video of a song entitled "You were there" sang by LIBERA - a group of boys from South London, aged seven to sixteen who would rather refer to their group as an alternative boy band than a boys choir.

Their sound is so unique and heavenly it makes you wanna cry. Here it is:

Good news is Libera is coming to the Philippines to hold a series of concerts from 23rd to 29th October 2011.

The Manila show dubbed, Libera - a Christmas concert will be held at the PICC Plenary Hall on October 25, 2011 at 8:00 P.M. For tickets and reservations, call Ticketworld at 891-9999.

Print this and keep in your car for emergencies

I get forwarded emails regularly. Most of them just go straight to the Trash folder. But this one is different. I really took the time to read through the entire article and found the content both helpful and useful. Here it is guys for your perusal:

4 Things you might not have known about your Cell Phone
For all the folks with cell phones. (This should be printed and kept in your car, purse, and wallet. Good information to have with you.)
There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies.

Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival.
Check out the things that you can do with it:

FIRST (Emergency)

The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile network and there is an Emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly, this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.

SECOND (Hidden Battery Power)

Imagine your cell battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370#. Your cell phone will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell phone next time.

THIRD (How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone? )
To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following Digits on your phone:
*#06# .
A 15-digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe.

If your phone is stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

And Finally....

FOURTH (Free Directory Service for Cells)

Cell phone companies are charging us $1.00 to $1.75 or more for 411 information calls when they don't have to. Most of us do not carry a telephone directory in our vehicle, which makes this situation even more of a problem. When you need to use the 411 information option, simply dial:
(800) FREE411 or (800) 373-3411
without incurring any charge at all. Program this into your cell phone now.
This is sponsored by McDonalds.

This is the kind of information people don't mind receiving, so pass it on to your family and friends.

The most amazing beer commercial I have ever seen...

Not that I am promoting the brand; but I just had to share this video emailed to me by my aunt. You're gonna love this!

Share coffee moments...

There's nothing like a warm cup of coffee in the morning. Instant, 3-in-1, 5-in-1n and would you believe I have tried an 8-in-1? But I still prefer it brewed straight from the coffee maker. Just make sure coffee is served within 15-20 minutes because once brewed, it begins to lose its flavor. To keep it hot for a longer time, pour it into a thermos. Never leave it in the coffee maker and reheat for a second serving as this destroys the flavor.

At home, to have just the right amount of coffee to awaken my senses, I use this cute coffee filter I bought during a recent trip to Vietnam. You just put it on top of your cup, add in 2 tablespoons of brewed coffee, pour in hot water, cover and sit for 1-2 minutes and serve.

Best enjoyed with the family, coffee moments create warm and wonderful memories of home, friendship, love. So sit and talk a while in the one world of warm coffee.:)

SeptemOctoNovemDecem...BER

My countdown to Christmas officially started today. Though unlike the past years, I didn't wake up with the song A Perfect Christmas being played on the radio. It would have been nice and more heartfelt especially with the kind of weather we have nowadays.

This year, I am planning to have a box that I will gradually fill with Christmas presents. Three months are more than enough time to make sure every single name in my Christmas list gets something on Christmas day. I don't want to experience having to hand an unwrapped gift again. It's just plain awful and embarrassing. I also don't want to go through last minute shopping which leaves you with not enough energy to enjoy the fun and merry-making during Christmas eve.

And so the hunting for a good buy shall begin. Catch me at bazaars and factory outlet sales. Let's see who's better in haggling. Advanced Merry Christmas to all!
